The Sumter Item sports writer Danny Kelly conducted a question-and-answer interview with each of the 12 high school football coaches in Sumter, Clarendon and Lee counties, asking each the same five questions about their recently concluded spring practices. Today we have Thomas Sumter Academy head coach Randy Stogner.
Q: What was your No. 1 goal entering spring practice and did you accomplish that?
A: Just to acclimate the incoming players to what we were doing offensively and defensively, and yes we did.
Q: Who is an individual who has shined for you so far?
A: Well, I mean there’s (running back) Jacob Chandler back from knee surgery. He’s moving really good. And (offensive lineman) Logan Long, the same thing. Both of them guys, they look really good in the way they were moving.
Q: What left you concerned, if anything?
A: Nothing. Everything went as planned.
Q: Where do you need to make the most progress over the summer entering fall?
A: Well, like always, we need to make sure they come in in the fall in shape and stronger, just to make sure that we can play with the numbers we got.
Q: What was one area or position you feel like you solidified in the spring?
A: Well, I feel like at quarterback. We had the opportunity to work three or four kids back there, so it’s gonna give us some opportunities to move some athletes around in different positions so we can be more versatile on offense.
