The season hasn’t started quite the way JL Mann was hoping. Sitting at 0-3, they’ll still be seeking their first win of the season when they host undefeated T.L Hanna on Friday night.
The Patriots are coming off a 27-6 los to Greenville last Friday, but head coach Kevin Burnette knows the team still has time to get back on track.
“We have to continue doing what we’ve been doing, but do it better,” said Burnette. He explained that he’s not focused on the other opponent, but rather being fundamentally sound.
“If we go out and play our best game, we have an opportunity to win,” said Burnette. “It hurts, Friday night after you lose, but then come Sunday, you find that renewed spirit to go get them the next week.”
Even through the tough losses, Burnette explained how he has faith in the team, saying, “I’m confident that we have kids that won’t fold.” Through their hard losses the Patriots have been staying optimistic.
“It does suck to lose, but you just have to keep going as a team and play together as a unit,” said junior Stone Sneed.
Starting quarterback Noah Staples said, “It starts with me. I gotta put in the work and I gotta keep leading those guys.”
Friday’s meeting marks the beginning of region play for both teams, effectively wiping the slate clean for the Patriots. Everyone is 0-0 in region, and that’s the only record that matters for postseason play.
