The JL Mann Patriots fell to 0-4 on the season after a 55-13 to the TL Hanna Yellow Jackets.
The Yellow Jackets scored a rushing touchdown early to take a 7-0 lead. Things got out of hand quickly though, as the Patriots fell behind 21-0 by the end of the first quarter and 35-0 by halftime.
Mann came out with a determined mindset and stepped their game up. Thomas Hodges had a long run setting up great field position, and then Deante Sloan, ran it in for Mann’s first touchdown.
The Yellow Jackets scored quickly on the ensuing possession, as JJ Hudson managed to make it all the way down the field to score a touchdown.
A couple drives later, Mann struck for the final time, on Deante Sloan second rushing touchdown of the game.
Head Coach Burnette told his guys at halftime “Every single play we were just this close. It was a missed tackle or a missed block or a missed read.” He said, “If we keep fighting, if we keep battling, we can make up for that little bit that we’re missing.”
Coach Burnette explained that in the second half that he believes they did a much better job. He said, “You go into the locker room down 35-0 at halftime and as a coach that can go one of two ways. Your guys can stand up for themselves, they can have some pride, and they can continue to fight. Or they can go into halftime and decide everything is over.” He explained he’s proud of his team. “These guys don’t quit and they care about each other.”
Wide receiver Deante Sloan had both touchdowns last night for Mann. He said he was proud of how he played. “I think I played a very good game. I really put in work in practice, everyday, Monday through Friday.” He explained Coach Burnette is always saying, “Run your routes hard and do not stop.”
The JL Mann Patriots will look to get back on track as they travel to Easley to play the Green Wave. The TL Hanna Yellow Jackets will hope to continue their winning streak when they travel to play the 1-2-1 Westside Rams.
