Riverside (0-4) looks for their first win on Friday night when they host a Mauldin (2-2) team that’s coming off a close loss to Gaffney, one of the top teams in the state, last Friday.
“Mauldin has a great coach and they are always a tough team to beat,” said Riverside head coach Charles Martin. “They are always very physical, but it’s homecoming week for Riverside, so that always fires up the players, but it can also be a distraction.”
Riverside had their best practice in two years this week, and the players are pumped for the game. Many figure this might be their best chance at a victory this season given how difficult of a schedule they face.
Coach Martin only worries about the game in front of them, but he also understands how difficult of a schedule the Warriors face this year. “You always to want win,” said Martin. “That’s the goal, to play your best, and that’s all you can do.”
So far this season Riverside has had trouble closing out games. Their defense has done especially well in the first and second quarters, but faltered late. The Warriors allowed Southside just six points in the first half of their game two weeks ago, but then allowed 26 points in the second half. They’ll look to try to play a complete game against Mauldin on Friday night.
